  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): This mild sedative is inhaled through a mask during treatment. It induces a sense of relaxation while keeping you fully awake and aware of your surroundings.
  • Oral Sedation: For more moderate anxiety, oral sedation can be prescribed. You’ll take a pill before your appointment, helping you feel drowsy and relaxed but still conscious.
  • Intravenous (IV) Sedation: IV sedation is reserved for those with severe anxiety or who need extensive dental work. It allows you to remain deeply relaxed during the procedure while maintaining the ability to respond to verbal cues.

  • Communicate with Your Dentist: One of the most important things you can do is communicate openly with us about your anxiety. Letting us know your concerns allows us to tailor our approach and ensure you feel comfortable throughout your visit.
  • Bring a Friend or Family Member: Having someone you trust accompany you to your appointment can provide extra comfort and reassurance.
  • Practise Relaxation Techniques: Practising breathing exercises or visualising calming scenes before your appointment can help you arrive feeling more at ease.
  • Schedule Early Morning Appointments: If possible, try to book your dental appointment in the morning so you have less time to dwell on your anxiety throughout the day.
