Root canal Specialist
Specialist Endodontists are Registered Dental Specialists with advanced education in root canal therapy. They are specially trained to diagnose and manage conditions that, if not treated, will certainly cause infection, pain and tooth loss. While general dentists can perform the procedures and treatments offered by specialists, endodontists have received additional training in diagnosis and root canal treatment.
In addition because endodontists also specialised in pain management in this area, you will likely see them if you have trouble undergoing local anesthesia. Endodontists also focus on root canal safety and employ cutting-edge tools for a comfortable, pain-free experience.
Ask your general dentist about a referral to our skilled endodontist, Dr Keval Shah, if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
- Tooth pain, perhaps after a tooth injury
- Sensitivity to cold or hot food and drinks
- Swelling around your gums, teeth and face
- Tenderness, pus or discolouration in or around a tooth
Dental Implant Specialist
Implantologists do more than just place implants. They are involved in every stage of the treatment journey, from initial consultation to aftercare and support. They are highly skilled dentists who have chosen to specialise in placing dental implants. A typical day for an implantologist could include the following:
- Meeting with prospective patients to determine if they are suitable candidates for dental implants.
- Taking X-rays, CT scans and digital scans to help inform treatment plans.
- Working with treatment coordinators to design treatment plans that work for their patients.
- Surgically placing dental implants, fitting abutments and placing final restorations.
- Adjustments to restorations to ensure a perfect fit.
- Replacing and ordering repairs for dental appliances like crowns, bridges and dentures.
- Aftercare support for patients, in practice and over the phone.
This is just a sample of what an implant dentist might get up to on a typical day. As you can see, this is very different to what you would expect from a regular dentist.
Cone Beam CT Scan
Dental Cone Beam CT scans (CBCT Scans) provide high resolution, 3D volumetric images, used in Dental Implant Planning, Orthodontics and Maxillofacial surgery allowing for more accurate analysis of bone structure and dental/tooth orientation. The patient will be standing up, as opposed to lying in a tunnel, and the time for a dental CBCT scan is just twenty seconds.
Whereas typical dental X-rays focus on a small area to produce flat, 2D image, CBCT scan images enable a more complete and accurate 3D images – allowing your dentist to effectively plan patient surgical and dental treatments.
OPG X-rays
An Orthopantomogram x-ray (OPG x-ray) is a wide-view, panoramic x-ray of the patients upper and lower jaw, and associated dentition from root to crown, in a single image – which is not possible with single x-rays.
A digital OPG x-ray is especially helpful in planning of orthodontic treatment, as it provides a full overview of the teeth, and highlights non-erupted and/or impacted teeth.
When capturing images using a panoramic X-ray, there is no longer a need to place a sensor or dental film in the patient’s mouth, eliminating the discomfort and gag reflex caused by traditional x-rays.
Digital Impressions
Digital impressions increase efficiency and accuracy, make it possible for dentists to e-mail the virtual impression to the laboratory, rather than send a traditional impression or stone model via regular mail, thereby speeding up patient treatment and reducing the need for multiple practice visits.
Other benefits of digital impressions include:
- Improved image/impression quality
- Reduced chair time
- More comfortable, less anxious experience for patients, eliminating gag reflex caused by impression materials
- Reduced possibility of errors and elimination of inaccuracies
The digital impression can be stored electronically indefinitely, which saves space, contributes to efficient record keeping.
At Welham Green Dental we also accept referrals for the above services.
Invisalign
Invisalign® is definitely the wave of the future for those wanting to straighten their teeth and beautify their smile. These transparent, plastic aligner trays work as a set to gradually straighten your teeth in a manner similar to traditional metal braces.
Traditionally, braces are made using metal, plastic or ceramic brackets. These brackets are fixed in place to the front of the tooth and a wire is then held between them. Whilst braces are clinically proven to deliver very effective results, many prospective patients are afraid to wear them as they do not like the idea of their appearance during treatment.
We offer a solution at Welham Green Dental as our dentists can fit you with Invisalign which will give you a beautiful smile as conventional braces will, but without compromising your appearance during the treatment.
Invisalign offers the patient a series of clear, removable aligners which are changed every 2-3 weeks. There is no tightening to be done, no changing of wires and no elastic bands to get in the way. Instead, all of the adjustments are made with one new aligner every few weeks.
Since the aligners are clear they are hardly visible in the mouth at all and will fit perfectly against your teeth. As each aligner is individually moulded to specifically fit each patient, Invisalign is much more comfortable than conventional braces.
